Jazz pianist Jonathan Cohen is an active participant in the San Diego jazz scene, and has performed with many of the area's top musicians. In addition to his solo work, he works regularly with a wide variety of musicians, in many formats --- duo, trio, quartet, and more. He is an enthusiastic interpreter of standard (and not-so-standard) repertoire, as well as a composer.
Cohen grew up and began to play jazz in the Boston area. While attending college in Chicago, he continued his musical studies, and played with many of that city's most illustrious groups. He lived in New York while attending graduate school in philosophy, and came to San Diego in 2001 to take up a position at UC San Diego. He now lives something of a double life as a philosopher by day and a jazz musician by night. He is grateful to have the opportunity to make music with so many inspiring artists from around the region.
